Group Leaders (GL) are men and women who are the first line of supervision for both campers and staff.

Group Leaders serve as an essential adult presence and role model both on and off camp. Group Leaders direct and supervise a division (consisting of typically two cabins) with approximately 24-30 campers of the same age and 6-10 staff. Group Leaders live in a cabin with campers and staff.

Group leaders know each child in their division and are closely connected to the daily routine and events of the day. The primary function of the GL is to ensure that campers are being well taken care of. This includes, but is not limited to, each camper’s physical well being, emotional health, and social, medical, and dietary needs.

In addition to camper care and supervision, staff management is a major responsibility of the GL. As a Group Leader you will supervise the Cabin Specialists (CS) and Activity Specialists (AS) that live and work with your specific group of campers. Group Leaders are responsible for ensuring that their staff are receiving ongoing training, guidance in problem solving, regular feedback to correct or praise daily work and the formal review of each staff member twice throughout the summer. As the supervisory role of a GL is significant, they are supported directly by the Head Counselors and Camp Directors.

Other important responsibilities of the Group Leader include, but are not limited to: parent communication and customer service, program support, administrative tasks and camp leadership.

Applicants must posses a keen sense for young people, have excellent organizational and communication skills, and a proven ability to work with and supervise others. Prior experience in a residential or day camp setting is helpful, but not essential. This is a most challenging opportunity for Juniors, Seniors, Graduate Students and Faculty Members. Group Leaders must be at least 21 years of age.
